MUSHROOM "PORCINO DI BORGOTARO" (I.G.P.)


The harvest of mushrooms in the forest of the Appennine mauntains is a tradition that goes back many centuries in the areas around Albareto, Borgotaro and Pontremoli.

When talking about Mushroom of Borgotaro, it refers in both tradition and local trade terms to four varieties: Boletus edulis, Boletus aereus, Boaetus aestivalis and Boletus vinicola.

The cleaned perfumed aroma of these mushrooms, has no inflexions of wood, liquorice or hay; it is these natural characteristics that distinguish these mushrooms from similar varieties produced in other regions.

The "Consorzio Comunali Parmensi", has undertaken the procedures to the recognition of I.G.P. (Protected Geographical Indication) for the Mushroom of Borgotaro, which it has been declared by a ministerial decree in December 1993. Consequently, in 1995 has been founded the Consortium I.G.P. Mushroom of Borgotaro for the protection of this product.
